Kristina Sobstad - Biography


Kristina Elise Ovrevoll Sobstad is a distinguished Canadian-Norwegian visual artist who splits her time between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Canada. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2010.

Since embarking on her artistic career in 2007, Sobstad has showcased her work in over 275 international  group and solo exhibitions. Her portfolio demonstrates a broad and dynamic range of artistic expression, with her works held in prestigious collections worldwide.

In recent years, Sobstad completed a notable residency and exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Chiloe, Chile, supported by funding from ArtsNL. This residency reflects her commitment to engaging with diverse cultural contexts and expanding her artistic horizons.

Sobstad's works has been acquired by several significant art institutions, most recently the Nova Scotia Art Bank, as well as the Canada Council Art Bank, the Provincial Art Bank of Newfoundland, and the Francophile Art bank in Paris, France. 

Sobstad's art has also been recognized beyond traditional galleries. Her work graces the cover of the bestselling acedemic book "Reaching Through Resistance" by Dr. Allan Abbass, indicating her imapact on both visual arts and academic communities. 

Sobstad's current solo exhibition "Unbound" with the Christina Parker Gallery in St. John's, Newfoundland was recently honored by the RBC Art and Dinner series underlining her active presence and ongoing contributions to the art world.
